We do scratch nights

WTF is a scratch night?

Scratch nights are low-key events for theatremakers to present works-in-progress or short excerpts of new plays, performances, or pieces. These events provide an opportunity for artists to receive feedback from an audience and fellow creatives, allowing them to refine and develop their work further. Scratch nights are often informal and experimental, fostering a supportive environment for artists to test out ideas, explore new concepts, and showcase emerging talent. They’re valuable for both artists and audiences, offering a glimpse into the creative process and contributing to the growth of the theatre community.

Who are we then?

Blindspot Nights was originally founded in 2019 to bring new theatre and the people who make it out of your blind spot.

We create opportunities to test, explore, and support brand new theatre & performance from Coventry and the wider Midlands region. We offer radical support for artists and approachable events for audiences, because we want to make sure we explicitly help artists move forward in their careers and help as many people as possible feel that making and seeing theatre is for them.

Why are we different to other scratch nights? And how do we adapt to better serve our community of artists and audiences?

When we started in 2019 we supported over 25 local artists and shared 15 new pieces of work in just six months. Learn more about everything that lead up to our new nights in 2024.

We do access differently. As a disability-lead team we build our own processes that are better suited to our needs than policys and procedures developed without us.

We’ve grown from a one-man-band to a full team working behind-the-scenes to make Blindspot Nights a responsive new offer for artists & audiences. Meet the people who make it happen.
